Reed is coming home TODAY! We are meeting him at the airport at 6 pm. Lydia has been talking about it for the past week. "Happy Reed, Happy Reed," is what she says as she sings and dances around. Does she really remember him? Anyhow we are all excited. Thanks for all you have done for him!

In the Zone
Guess the title is kinda a pun....since Reed is a Zone Leader, and he is totally in the missionary zone. It's funny because it is like he has blocked out all worldly concerns. He didn't even remember that his little sister Katelyn graduated high school. A church friend from here was visiting his daughter in his area and miraculously found Reed and took him out to lunch. He said he never mentioned anything about home. He just talks excitedly about investigators like he does in all his emails. It's great and amazing how the Lord helps those missionaries because normally Reed is very ADD. We're proud he's working so hard and devoted to the Lord's work!

Sorry
Hey Reedo fans!
Sorry I've been busy. Reed is doing great. He doesn't really respond to what I email him about, but goes on and on about the great Lord's work he is doing. I would say it is the most focused he has ever been. He always sounds so excited about all the investigators and trying to be a good Zone Leader. See for yourself!
Hey ya'll, So, this week has been the craziest week yet and we hardly got to do any real missionary work. Elder Wood and I have been slaving over what to do for our Zone Taining and we want it to be something different and something that will keep them excited through the whole transfer. We think that we finally got something that will do the job. It will be focused on gaining the trust of the members and helping them help us in the missionary work. I am really excited to see how it will all unfold and the missionaries have to go for it too or there is just no reason to do it. We think that they will really like though because they all seem to want to improve how much the wards are involved. As for the people that we are working with right now, there are only a few updates. First, the baptismal date for Pamela Washington is still a go. She is really excited about it and she is already making some friends in the ward. I am actually really surprized because the first time I met with her she didn't seem to be very interested in the gospel, but she did in the welfare. It seems like the opposite now. It is really cool to see. I don't really know what is going on with Marty Molpus. This last Sunday we had his fellowshipper call him and see if he needed a ride to church, and he said that he couldn't come because he had a cold. This is now the third week that he hasn't come to church for one reason or another. We tried to contact him also Sunday after church to see how he was and he didn't answer. We did pick up a new investigator that we talked to when Marty didn't answer the door. Maybe that was the reason we went to see him. We have an appointment with him (Edgar) this Saturday. I hope that goes through. Elder Wood and I are getting along really well. We agree on a lot of different things and so that makes it fun to do this work. We are both really energietic and very sarcastic so I don't know how good of a combination that is when we are around other missionaries. :) It is really fun, though. Hopefully some of the enthusiasm will transfer to the missionaries in the Zone. I really like how things are going and I am looking forward to spending time out doing work with Elder Wood. It seems like everything is going great back home and I hope to here from you next week! Love,Elder Carter

Christmas in Oregon
Reed as always as far as we can tell is still doing great. We talked to him Christmas. He is the Zone leader and serving in 2 Tongan wards. He had a big Tongan feast for Christmas! And he is worried about being 150 pounds. Weirdo! He is 6 ft something for goodness sakes. Anyhow guess he compares himself to his skinny highschool self who hadn't finished puberty yet and to big bro Brett who is too skinny and runs marathons. Funny boy! Anyhow he is always thinking about the people he is serving and seems to love the service oriented Tongan people. Here are his last 2 emails...
hey Fam. So, I will not have very much time this time because I am on one of the computers that is only for 15 min.Things are going great here. i did finally get the package. It was great to get it. I will definitely be able to use them and I love the Shoes. Thank you so much. The area is doing great and we are starting to get new investigators now, but I don't really know them yet. I will hopefully be able to tell you about them next week. I love this work and will constantly be trying to get better. I am healthy and thank Heavenly Father for that so that I can be the best missionary that I can be. Thank you for all that you do for me. Sorry for this being so short but I am really out of time. I hope you have a great week. Love,Elder Carter
Hey Fam.,> > Happy New Year to all. The coolest thing about this year is that I sp=> ent everyminute of it in the service of the Lord. That makes me feel pre=> tty good. Things are going pretty good here in Oregon. It was a really => fun Christmas. I hope everyone had a good Christmas and New Years too. => Now we can start on a new year and make it the best of our lives yet. Th=> at is one of the very important lessons that I have learned on my mission=> : It doesn't matter what you have done in the past because that is what => the Atonement is for; what matters is what you do with tommorrow. The At=> onement is not just for making us not suffer the full justice of sins, bu=> t it is what makes it possible to change our lives and always be improvin=> g. It is possible to repent everyday because we can always improve. I t=> hink that is how we should look at if we are on the right path. Are we w=> illing to change? Are we willing to go to the Savior for the help? If w=> e are willing God will make it possible for us to do those things. I hav=> e done countless things on my mission that I would not have been able to => do if it were not for the help of the Lord. Becoming better is definitel=> y one of them. I hope that this is making sense because I really am not => good at organizing my thoughts, but this is something that I feel very st=> rongly about. I hope we can all make goals to improve this year.> So, for what is going on in North east Portland. Well, honestly there=> is not all that much. With the weather and the holidays it has been rea=> lly hard to set appointments. But now that it is over I have a feeling t=> hat the work will just take off. Actually I think that over the next two=> transfers you will see a big change for the better happening in this who=> le Zone. We have amazing missionaries and we have an area where people a=> re looking for something better. I am excited for what I think will happ=> en and if we have enough prayer and faith then I know that it can happen.=> =20> You know I didn't really think that someone could improve so much at t=> he end of their mission, but I am being proved wrong by Elder Stuart. He=> is an amazing teacher and an amazing missionary, but I am not talking ne=> ccessarily about the way he does missionary work. He is learning how to => be patient and not worry so much when there is nothing he can do about it=> . This has made it where he is not so bottled up. I have found that if => we stress out about everything and we can't even do anything then we miss=> some of the feelings of comfort that can be a result of God's hand worki=> ng in our life. These times have been amazing testimony builders for me.=> He is doing great on that. > Also, I have been learning a lot from him about following the Spirit a=> nd about making decisions. I think these are things that I can take with=> me and use for the rest of my life, and I am very grateful for that.> Well, I thank everyone for all of the support and hope you have a grea=> t week. Serving the Lord does a body good!
Look how our little Reedo is growing up!
I am really liking the opportunity to teach and to see the change in these people as they embrace the gospel. It just strengthens my testimony to see that. I hope God continues to bless us with these opportunities. I have been really tired lately and and I like it, becuase it means that I have been working hard for the Lord. That is really rewarding to know that he is pleased with my work. Well, that is about all that I can think of right now so I will catch you later. Things are going well. Elder Carter
